KCCI Welcomes ‘Maintenance’ of Jamia Sanctity

SRINAGAR —The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry KCC&I on Monday welcomed the steps initiated towards the maintenance of the sanctity and safety of the Jamia Masjid by the Anjuman-e-Auqaf.

The president KCC&I, Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad, in a statement said that it was “unfortunate that attempts were made to involve the historic Masjid in controversies by vested interests.”

“Such acts were aimed at maligning the peace-loving people of the State and creating divisions amongst them which were deplorable.”

The KCCI President said that the business community of Kashmir was always prepared to shoulder any “responsibility for the protection of our heritage and culture.”

Earlier some masked youth who waved the flags of the ISIS had entered into the mosque and stepped on its pulpit and “ created ruckus in the mosque.”

The incident had drawn condemnation across the political circles with Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, leading a protest rally.
