Anantnag, Shopian DC’s Urge People Not To Walk On Frozen Water Bodies

SHOPIAN —Deputy Commissioner Dr Owais Ahmed today issued an advisory asking people not to walk or play over the frozen parts of water bodies as it can prove dangerous.

The advisory has been issued as several water bodies in the district have frozen due to sub-zero temperature. He said it is dangerous and potentially life-threatening to walk/play on these partially or fully frozen water bodies, so it is requested to take note and desist from any such action.

Meanwhile, in view of the inclement weather conditions, district Administration Shopian has set up winter control room for the benefit of the general public comprising Additional Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Tehsildar Shopian, Executive Officer Municipal Committee, and officials from R&B, PHE, Mechanical Engineering and PDD Departments.

Snow clearance in Anantnag

Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Mohammad Younis Malik, today took stock of the preparedness put in place including availability of manpower, snow cutters and other machinery for snow clearance. The DC visited National Highway and reviewed the preparedness to meet any kind of eventuality. He also visited Disaster Management Centres established on various spots along the National Highway including Levdora, Gulab Bagh, Ujroo, Zig and Jawahar Tunnel. Sufficient stocks of blankets, firewood, and other essential commodities have been made available for the stranded passengers at all the centres. AD Food Anantnag was directed to ensure availability of essential commodities including, Rice, Atta, Sugar, Kerosene Oil, LPG Cylinders and other essentials at all the Disaster Centres.

The DC also visited New Control Room of Mechanical Division Anantnag to review the preparedness. The Executive Engineer informed the DC that men and machinery including 08 Snow Peaks, 08 Snow Cats, one Snow Cutter, one Unimog and JCBs have been kept ready for snow clearance. The Executive Engineer further informed that 03 Snow Clearance machines, each at Kokernag, Pahalgam, and Kapran have also been kept ready.

During the inspection of tehsildar office Qazigund, the DC suspended Naib Tehsildar along with entire staff for remaining absent from control room duty at Qazigund. The DC was accompanied by SDM Dooru, Executive Engineer PHE Division Qazigund, AD Food Anantnag, other senior officers and officers of RAMKY.
