SRINAGAR Hundreds of employees of Jammu and Kashmir Bank continued their protests on Friday demanding rollback of the government decision to turn the bank into a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU).
Continuing their demand of the revocation of order passed by the State Administrative Council (SAC), employees staged a protest outside the Zonal Headquarters of the bank at Maulana Azad road in Srinagar.
The employees, including women, staged the protest which was held under the banner of All India J&K Bank Officers Federation (AIJKBOF).
The AIJKBOF is spearheading the protests against the SAC decision. Similar protests were held yesterday also at Corporate Office.
The protesting employees were carrying placards reading as J&K Bank is a wonderful institution, let it remain wonderful and Roll Back SAC decision
The decision is aimed to crush the economy of Kashmir and to attack the financial autonomy of this institution which is the only profitable institution of the State of Jammu and Kashmir, said a protesting employee.
The employees and many other civil society organizations have decided to continue protests if the decision was not revoked. The AIJKBOF said if the order is not revoked, they will be forced to continue protests, for which further course of action would be chalked out, after final notification of the government will be received. However, banking and ATM service were not affected due to the strike.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah, have denounced the decision of Governor led administration for making the bank a PSU.
Mehbooba on Wednesday also spoke to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, seeking his intervention in the matter.
The State Accountability Commission (SAC), in its order on November 23, approved to convert the JKB into a PSU and also brought it under the RTI.
The Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) had yesterday announced to support the protests against the SAC order.
