Security Technology Must Allow Right to Privacy

SRINAGAR — Due to the progress in economic and financial globalization, development of information and communication technology, people, goods, money and information are circulating across borders on a global scale.

While this environment is making people’s everyday life more comfortable and enriching, it is also being exploited by criminal elements and organizations that try to perpetrate crimes easily and efficiently on a global scale. Security of children has been a huge issue due to this very reason. Surveillance is an option. However in schools, while in transit how to ensure the safety of children without compromising on the privacy of the children and their families also need to be considered.

The IFSEC’s latest exhibition showcasing the modern equipments and tools will ensure the security cover that would not breach privacy of individual students, schools, families and other stake holders in the process.

Addressing this issue MD UBM Mr. Yogesh Mudras, pointed out vitalities that technology has taken care with sensitivity “Children represent a significant and one of the most vulnerable subject category of end users in the extensive range of security and surveillance systems & products available in the market.

With the Delhi Cabinet recently approving the installation of CCTV cameras in government schools to ensure safety of students, child security and surveillance is a trending subject in the industry currently. CCTV Monitoring in vantage points, Wall Cams providing bird’s eye view of the school campus or residential complexes, entrance automation, hidden cameras with inbuilt alerts and GPS tracking of school buses and vehicles form a part of the surveillance as do – very significantly —

tracking and monitoring children’s digital footprints. As South Asia’s largest expo on security, IFSEC will display these technologies and their optimal usage.

Further he added, “When it comes to the subject of child security, however, we need to stringently discern between what constitutes genuine security for children and whatborders on spying. After all, over monitoring invariably distorts the personalities of impressionable youngsters, disallowing their right to privacy and making them fearful and suspicious – the opposite of what safety and security products ought to achieve!

In this context, a giant platform like IFSEC India acts as a catalyst for the progress and vision of this proliferating industry, wherein key stakeholders can collectively ideate, innovate, spot trends and enable the shift in India’s security paradigm from a defensive approach to a responsible one.”

South Asia’s largest security exhibition on civil protection and fire safety show organised by UBM India. The event will be at Pragati Maidan in the capital between December 5th – 7th, 2018 to cater to all the concerns regarding cyber security and surveillance. The participants at the event have kept in mind that security of children has to dealt differently. It is important to ensure safety along with complete privacy to build a healthy society with confident children.
