SRINAGAR Dozens of far-flung and remote villages near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara and Bandipora remained cut off from their respective district headquarters for the fourth day on Monday due to accumulation of several feet of snow and slippery road conditions.
Several feet of snow had accumulated at Sadhna and Razdan passes besides Z-Gali and Phirkiyan as fresh light to moderate snowfall was recorded since Saturday night, reports reaching here said.
Official sources said that the road between Kupwara to border town of Keran remained closed due to accumulation of snow as there was fresh snowfall on Saturday. The road has become slippery, officials said, adding that no traffic movement was allowed to avoid any accident.
Sources said similarly Kupwara-Tanghdar and Kupwara-Karnah roads also remained closed due to snowfall for the third day today.
They said dozens of far-flung and remote villages were also cut off from their tehsil and district headquarters after closure of Sadhna top, Razdan top, Z-Gali, Phirkiyan pass and other passes due to moderate to heavy snowfall. However, efforts are being made to clear the snow and restore traffic on these roads, they said.
The border town of Gurez, surrounded by Pakistan Controlled Kashmir (PcK) from three sides, besides Neeru and dozens of other villages also remained cut off from district headquarters Bandipora due to snowfall.
