Urs Makhdoom Saheb (RA) Observed

SRINAGAR — The Urs of Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom (RA), popularly known as Sultan-u-Arifeen, was observed on Saturday at Kohimaran in the city with religious fervour.

Scores of devotees including women and children thronged at Kohimaran hilltop in which special “prayers and supplications were held.”

On the occasion, religious scholars threw light on the teachings of   Sheikh Maqdoom (RA). 

The mystic was instrumental in guiding thousands to the stages of the spiritual domain and had a huge number of followers.

Mirwaiz Umar Pays Tribute to Makhdoom Sahib

Hurriyat Chairman and patron of Mutahida Majlis Ulama, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Saturday paid rich tributes to Sheikh Hamzah Makhdoom (RA) and described him as a “great spiritual leader and social reformer.”

Mirwaiz said during his lifetime Sheikh Makhdoom had laid stress on Islamic teachings, humanity, kindness, brotherhood and social service and “helped in creating an atmosphere of justice and fair play.”

Paying glowing tributes to the saint for his “valuable religious and social services”, Mirwaiz also lauded the role of the saint “in character building of Kashmiri Muslims.”

He said Shiekh Makhdoom played a vital role in the dissemination of “religious and spiritual education, social and political consciousness among Kashmiri Muslims.”

Mirwaiz Umar also appealed the Muslims of Kashmir to learn from the teachings of the Shiekh Makhdoom by following them  and work towards tackling “various problems including social evils like moral degradation and waywardness, suicides, consumption of liquor and drugs, domestic violence and crime against women.”
