SRINAGAR After two video clips, puportedly showing him in obscene acts, Qazi Yasir Ahmed was on Friday removed from the post of President Idara Tahqeeqat-e-Islami, a religious group based in Anantnag and striped of the title of Mirwaiz South Kashmir.
Muhammad Abdullah Shah, patron of Tahqeeqat-e-Islami, and Qazi’s maternal grandfather announced the decision in a video message, adding the veracity of clips will be verified.”I am an old man and I have not been keeping well. But because of certain compulsions, I had to come forward to talk to you. We are ashamed at the allegations levelled against him, Shah said in the video.
Being a patron of the Idara, I have removed Yasir from all posts in view of the allegations against him.
“World knows the services rendered by Qazi family for the people. We witnessed so much of upheaval but never lost courage. Qazi sahib has given blood for the nation. If the allegations are proved against Yasir then he will not have any connection with the family any more,” Shah said.
Qazi Yasir succeeded his father, Qazi Nisar Ahmad, after he was assassinated by unidentified gunmen on June 14, 1996, in Dialgam village of Anantnag district.
Yasir who is married with two children is shown in a call with a woman in her mid-twenties in the first video.
Two days earlier Qazi family claimed the video is a conspiracy against young cleric by Indian agencies because he is a spearheading the campaign against New Delhi’s rule in the area.
Attempts to reach Qazi Yasir failed as he was detained by police earlier for leading anti-election campaign.
