Militant Killed, Another Injured In Pulwama Gunfight 

SRINAGAR — A militant was killed and another critically injured in an encounter with government forces at Babgund area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday.

Official sources said that army had laid an ambush following a tip off  about the presence of Zahoor Ahmad Thoker, a former army soldier, and other militants. 

The militant ran into the ambush and fired at the joint team of forces, they said. 

SSP Pulwama Chandan Kholi said one militant was killed in encounter  who was later identified as Shabir Ahmad Dar alias Maali of Samboora. 

“The army’s 55 RR party was going through the area in a Casper vehicle when it was fired upon by the militants,” SSP said.

He said that soon after the attack the whole area was cordoned off along with the additional reinforcements of security forces.

In the meantime, the contact was established with the hiding militants, resulting into the killing of one militant, he said.

Sources said that two other militants managed to escape from the site and later it was revealed that one among the them was injured in the gunfight when some unknown persons brought him to SMHS hospital, Srinagar where he was operated upon by the doctors.

A police officer identified the injured militant as Showkat Ahmad Dar son of Nazir Ahmad Dar of Muran, Pulwama. 

The officer said that Showkat was admitted by some unknown men and women who recorded his name as Bashir Ahmad in the hospital records.

He said that police has taken cognizance and further action is being taken.

According to a doctor, Dar has received a bullet wound in his abdomen which severely damaged his internal organs. “His condition is very critical,” the doctor said. 

Meanwhile, thousands of people participated in the funeral prayers of Shabir Ahmad Dar at his native village of Samboora.  

As the word about the killing of Dar spread, large number of people from the adjoining and far-off places gathered at Samboora to participate in his last rites. The militants also appeared in the funeral prayers and offered gun salute to him. After three rounds of funeral prayers, Dar was interred at his ancestral graveyard.

Meanwhile, JRL has paid rich tributes to Hizb militant Shabir Ahmad, killed in an encounter with government forces in Babagund Pulwama. “The sacrifices rendered by our youth in the length and breadth of Valley will bear fruit very soon.”
