Hoteliers Sensitized About GST Regime, Its Benefits

JAMMU — Commercial Taxes Department today organised a meeting with the representatives of Hotel Associations of Jammu Division to apprise them about the benefits of GST.

Chairing the meeting, Additional Commissioner Commercial Taxes, Administration, Shiv Kumar Gupta, apprised the hoteliers about the benefits of GST. He said the Input Tax Credit on account of purchases/inward supplies could be claimed for providing the services to the customers and Commercial Taxes Department shall provide handholding to the hoteliers in facilitating them to take GST Numbers and registrations under J&K GST Act, 2017.

The Associations submitted that there is recession going on in their business due to the low occupancy on account of decrease tourist inflow and also demanded that their representation may be considered for further appraisal of higher authorities. However, they were requested to get the hotels registered who are having turnover of more than 20 lakh rupees.

The Hoteliers Associations were informed about the mandatory registration for those who are dealing with the services like gymnasium, lodging, restaurants, parlours, banquets, caterings, sports club etc and are having turnover more than 20 lakhs and were also advised that such tax payers should file regular returns. The Commercial Taxes Officers were directed to survey the hotels falling in their respective jurisdictions having threshold limit more than 20 lakhs specially in Jammu, Katra, Patnitop, which are popular tourist destinations in order to increase the revenue of the State.

Various officers of Commercial Taxes Department, Assistant Commissioner, Administration, Jammu, and Commercial Taxes Officers, besides  Rakesh Wazir, President, Katra Hotel Boarding and Lodging Association, Kuldip Wahi, President, Hotel Restaurant and Bar Association, Jammu,   Ravi Gupta, General Secretary, Hotel Restaurant and Bar Association, Jammu,   Inderjit Khajuria, Chairman, All Jammu Hotel and Lodging Association, Pawan Gupta, President, Hotels and Lodging Association, Jammu, Sunil Suri, Treasurer, All Jammu Hotels and Lodging Association, and others were present at the meeting.
