SRINAGAR: High voltage Chinar Cup final played between rival Delhi Public Schools of Srinagar and Budgam ended in a draw after authorities decided not to go for penalty shootout for some unknown reasons.
Both teams had a number of opportunities at goal but neither team scored. When the final whistle was blown, the score stood at 0-0.
The final match was played under floodlights to a packed DPS, Srinagar ground.
Estimated five thousand cheering fans, mostly families of students, attended the much anticipated match of the tournament which saw participation of all leading schools of the Valley.
DPS Budgam which emerged as the highest goal scorer of the tournament gave their counterparts tough time all through the match robing them of the advantage of home ground and larger crowd support.

Both teams had a slew of chances during the entertaining 104 minutes, but both goalkeepers held their posts firmly.
DPS Budgam put up an impressive defence and its forward managed to hit the bar of Srinagar once during a counter attack.
Both teams had fair share of possession of the ball but match ended 0-0 at final time whistle and then went to extra time.
Extra time again ended at 0-0 with both sides locking themselves in a nail biting finish.
And when all were anticipating an outcome by a penalty-shootout officials abruptly declared end of the game, much to the disappointment of Budgam team whose goal keeper had emerged as a star of the tournament.
One official said the decision was taken for safety of the players as crowd had entered the ground.
According to DPS Srinagar, “The match outcome was a true reflection of the strength of the two teams. Both were undefeated in the tournament, and defended their teams with unmatched vigour and skill. The final attracted an unprecedented and record 7000+ spectators who cheered the teams vociferously. Each team had its share of supporters, and they made the atmosphere electric.”
Adeel Tariq of DPS Budgam was awarded Golden Boot while Uzair Tak of DPS Srinagar won the Golden Glove.
Musaib Javaid from DPS Srinagar was declared the player of the tournament.
Prize distribution ceremony was presided over by Khurshid A Ganai, Advisor to J&K Governor.
