Drinking Water Can’t Cause Hepatitis-C: PHE Engineer

Directs officials to maintain schemes, supply pure water to consumers

SRINAGAR — Chief Engi­neer Public Health Engi­neering (PHE), Engineer Abdul Wahid on Saturday clarified that the drinking water can’t cause Hepatitis- C, claiming that the disease is not water borne.

Wahid said the Hepatitis- C is not water borne disease, terming the reports regard­ing the issue as ‘incorrect’.

He said that the drinking water supply can’t cause Hep­atitis-C disease.

Er Wahid added that the reports are being circulated on social media, showing raw water, claiming that the water is contaminated for drinking purpose, saying that the raw water is being sup­plied to the people are getting through various processes including filtration, chlorina­tion and others.

He also directed the officials of the PHE department to main­tain the water supply schemes and supply pure drinking wa­ter to the people. (KNS)
