Kashmir University Hostellers Decry Unhygienic Mess

SRINAGAR — Describing the food supplied by a private canteen as “stale”, the hosteller of the Zakura campus of Kashmir University held a protest demonstration against the authorities on Saturday.

The hostellers of Sheikh ul Alam Boys reportedly summoned food safety officials after they were allegedly served with ‘rotten’ food in the canteen. According to students the officials after inspecting the kitchen and food castigated authorities for providing stale food to the students.

The students have vowed to continue the protests until their legitimate demands are not met.

“We don’t get hygienic food. There are no clean washrooms and besides we don’t have a mosque where we can offer prayers,” said the protesting students. “The canteen is being run by a private party interested only in maximizing profits disregarding hygiene.”

When contacted, chief proctor of the University, Naseer Iqbal said the administration will look into the issue. (CNS)
