Flies, Synthetic Colour Found In JVC Hospital Canteens

1.7 quintal spices from street vendors destroyed in Batmaloo

SRINAGAR — Officers from the Food Safety and Standards led by assistant commissioner Srinagar Saturday conducted an on-the-spot inspection of the canteens and messes located inside the JVC SKIMS hospital here in Bemina.

During the inspection, the checking team discovered the food was being spoiled by flies besides use of synthetic colour was making it unhealthy.

The officials collected samples of cooked for testing. A show-cause notice was also issued to those manning the messes and canteens for failing to produce valid licenses.

A complaint has been submitted before the competent court.

The inspection team also took up the issue of unlicensed operation of canteens with the principal JVC SKIMS who assured the matter would be looked into.

Later, the inspection team also visited Batamaloo and its surrounding areas during which open spices weighing more than1.70 quintals were destroyed on the spot. Street vendors were strictly instructed to maintain hygienic lest they would be penalized under relevant provisions of the FSS Act.
