REWARI A 19-year-old college student was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by a group of men at Kanina in Haryana’s Mahendergarh district, police said on Thursday.
The girl was gang-raped till she fell unconscious. She was later dumped at near a bus stop in Kanina.
The second-year student was allegedly kidnapped by three young men on Wednesday when she was on her way to a coaching centre near her village.
The girl said she was kidnapped and forced into a car and was taken to a secluded place. She said she was dragged by the accused to a field.
The girl was gang-raped after being offered a drink laced with sedatives. A few other men, who were already at the field, also took turns to rape the college girl, police said.
The victim said all the men were from her village.
According to an official of Women Police station, Rewari, a ‘zero FIR’ was lodged on the complaint of the woman, and a probe was being conducted by the Mahendergarh police as the incident occurred in the area under their jurisdiction.
Zero FIR can be filed in any police station, irrespective of place of incident or jurisdiction and the same can be later transferred to the police station concerned.
Medical examination of the woman has been conducted, senior police officer A S Chawla said, adding, “We are looking to arrest the three accused… they dropped her back (at the bus shelter) and called her parents to tell them about her location.”
Parents of the victim alleged that the police initially refused to take their complaint and did not even file an FIR.
“Police has failed to take any action. We were made to run from pillar to post before our complaint was taken. The FIR was registered at 1 am as police kept citing jurisdiction issues making us shuttle between Rewari and Kanina. All we want is justice,” the victim’s mother said.
The girl is said to be brilliant in academics and was also felicitated by the government after she topped the CBSE board examination.
“My daughter was rewarded by Modiji after she topped the CBSE board exams. Modiji says ‘beti padho, beti bacho’, but how? I want justice for my daughter. Police have taken no action yet,” the victim’s mother told news agency ANI.
