SKIMS Employees Protest Against NIA, Demand Release of Colleague

SRINAGAR — The arrest of Hizb Chief’s eldest son Syed Shakeel Ahmed by National Investigating Agency in funding case sparked a protest in the premises of Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) here on Thursday.

Shakeel is a senior lab technician, posted at SKIMS. His colleagues including non-gazetted and technical staff assembled in the premises of SKIMS and staged a protest demanding his immediate release.

“Our colleague is innocent. He has been picked up just because he is the son of Syed Salahuddin, otherwise everybody knows he is innocent and has been apolitical,” the protesting employees said.

Pertinently, Shakeel was arrested by NIA during a nocturnal raid at his Rambagh residence where he has been putting up form past three decades. He was later flown to Delhi for questioning and till date he is still in the custody of the investigating agency.

Shakeel is the second son of Hizb chief Syed Salahuddin arrested by NIA. In October last year, the probe agency arrested Salahuddin’s another son Syed Shahid Yousuf and since then he is lodged in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail where he accused jail authorities of torture and maltreatment.
