SRINAGAR Shia-Sunni Coordination Committee held a meeting at Gasiyar Zadibal here on Thursday.
The meeting was called to foster unity among the people of the area.
It was presided over by president Anjuman Shari Shiayan and senior Hurriyat leader Aga Syed Hasan Almosvi and attended by Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, Jamat-e-Islami spokesperson Advocate Zahid Ali, President Himayat-ul-Islam Maulana Khurshid Ahmed Qanungo, representatives of APHC (G), APHC (M), Democratic Freedom Party Hakim Abdul Rashid, Pir Ghulam Nabi Zaki and Ghulam Muhammad Mir of Awami Action Committee and president Shaheed Milat Youth Forum Mushtaq Ahmed Sofi.
The participants emphasized on the need for Shia-Sunni unity. Our unity is our great strength and we should always demonstrate it at all costs. It is our collective duty to denounce the persons involved in undesirable and sinful acts and trying to create a wedge between people, the participants said.
On this occasion Aga Hasan depicted certain aspects of character of Muharamul Haram and paid tribute to the martyrs of Karbala.
He also threw light on life and teachings of martyrs of Karbala and asked people to follow their path and teachings of Islam, besides he said that the martyrs of Karbala have set an example before us through their deeds, which will remain till the last day of this world.
Without unity among Muslims, problems could not be resolved. Enemies of Islam were making untiring efforts to defame Islam, however, their designs would be frustrated and they could not succeed in their nefarious designs. It is the need of the hour to show unity, he said.
He condemned the government move of banning the Muharram processions from last three decades.
