SRINAGAR One person was injured and hospitilized after government forces allegedly thrashed family members and neighbours of an active militant at Dogripora area of Awantipora in south Kashmir Tuesday night.
The residents of Dogripora village alleged that the forces entered the village at around 12:30 am and ransacked residential house of the active Hizbul Mujahideen commander Lateef Ahmad Dar and thrashed his family members which include his three brothers namely Gulzar Ahmad, Nadeem Ahmad and Zubair Ahmad.
Residents alleged forces also beat up three neighbours of the Hizb Commander namely Mohammad Azharuddin, Bilal Ahmad Dar and Ishfaq Ahmad Lone.
Among the trio, Azharuddin suffered injuries and has been hospitilized, they said.
Demanding stern action against the forces involved in ransacking the houses and beating of inmates, the residents appealed the higher authorities to direct the concerned police to register an FIR against the erring forces personnel.
A police officer concerned said that the operation was conducted based on inputs about the presence of militants.
No house was ransacked. Searches were conducted in a professional manner, he said, adding no incidents of thrashing were reported to the police.
Regarding thrashing and ransacking, he said but I did not get any report or complaint regarding any damage or ransacking by the forces in any house.
Pertinently Lateef is the only surviving member of the group of eleven whose picture along with Burhan Wani had gone viral in 2015.
The death of Burhan Wani, the Hizb commander in 2016 triggered a mass uprising. The uprising was crushed resulting in the death of nearly 100 protestors and injuries to over ten thousand mostly with pellets. (GNS)
