SRINAGAR The J&K High Court on Tuesday granted authorities two more weeks for completion of works regarding Simple Approach Lighting System (SALS) at Srinagar international airport.
The Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice D S Thakur granted one more opportunity to AAI after its counsel submitted before the court that the work on SALS is underway and short period of time be granted to apprise the court for the same.
Advocate Anil Bhan, counsel for for AAI informed the court that the work on installation of Simple Approach Lighting System (SALS) at Srinagar international airport has been allotted to a company and the same be completed within a short period for which some time be granted to file the status report.
Reiterating its direction passed on January 29, the division bench asked him that it is on his (AAIs counsel) statement that the installation of SLAS be completed within six months after the tendering process for the project allotment order has been issued on January 27 and as per his statement the work was supposed to be completed by July 27 this year and today further time is sought.
Court while taking his submission on record, granted him further time for completion of work on installation of SLAS with a direction in case AAI fails then appropriate order will follow.
The bench was hearing a Public Interest Litigation that it has initiated on its own motion, seeking to provide necessary facilities to passengers travelling to and from Kashmir by air.
The PIL was initiated by Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey and Chief Justice had directed its registration as suo-moto PIL. In this petition, the judge noticed that the AAI has, prima facie, failed to take notice of hardships and difficulties being regularly faced by the people, who travel to and fro Kashmir by air.
The judge also noticed that the authorities have, prima facie, failed to take appropriate remedial measures by upgrading the lighting system and installing the required gadgets at the Srinagar airport.
