Restaurant Penalized For Overcharging

SRINAGAR — The Department of Legal Metrology Srinagar had received a complaint against a restaurant operating from Shalimar road for issuing a VAT bill in place of GST bill with an incorrect date.

On the instructions of Controller, Legal Metrology J & K R.K. Katoch, the field executives of Legal Metrology department conducted the surprise inspection of the restaurant premises in order to ascertain the genuine of the complaint.

During the inspection, it was observed that the software on the billing machine/computer was not updated and the management of the restaurant has overcharged on the packaged drinking water above the menu rate.

In this regard, hotel management was fined for Rs 5000/. Meanwhile, management of the hotel has given an undertaking that they shall immediately update the software as per the new GST Act.
