PULWAMA A local court in Pulwama convicted a man in a cheque bounce case awarding him 18 months imprisonment after the accused was found guilty under section 138 of Negotiable Instrument Act.
Observing that dishonest drawers of cheques defeat the very object of Negotiable Instrument Act, Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Pulwama, Javaid Alam sentenced Muhammad Shafi Ahangar alias Gulla Khar to 18 months imprisonment after he was found guilty of cheating in a cheque bounce case.
The court also directed Ahangar to pay compensation in terms of Section 545 CrPC to the complainant amounting to Rs 60,000 to compensate the suffering and the harassment besides the legal expenses incurred by the complainant for no fault of his.
In 2011, one Abdul Ahad Dar proprietor M/S Master Unique Steels Pulwama filed a complaint against Muhammad Shafi Ahangar of Chandgam Tahab purchased galvanized tin sheets from him to the tune of Rs 2,60,118 and issued five cheques to him to liquidate the liability.
Dar, through counsel Advocate Muhammad Amin Khan, pleaded before the court that all those cheques were dishonoured by Bank. After the cheques could not be cashed out, Advocate Khan served notice to accused demand
