Governor Chairs APM, Mehbboba Skips Meet

NC, Others Demand Dissolution Of Assembly, Urge Accountability In Public Delivery System

SRINAGAR —  Governor N.N. Vohra on Friday chaired an all party meeting in which senior leaders and representatives of political parties of the State participated but PDP chief and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti skipped it.

The meeting was held at the Raj Bhawan this evening and discussed with them the prevailing environment and important issues concerning the growth and development of the State, an official spokesman said.

Former Chief Minister and Vice President, National Conference, Omar Abdullah; State President, INC, G.A. Mir;  Sat Sharma from BJP; Mohammad Dilawar Mir from PDP; State Secretary, CPI (M), Ghulam Nabi Malik; Bashir Dar, MLA, from People’s Conference;  Ghulam Hassan Mir from J&K Democratic Party Nationalist; Hakim Mohammad Yaseen from J&K PDF; and Chairman, Panther’s Party, Harsh Dev Singh participated in the meeting.

Governor held wide ranging discussions on issues related to internal security, law and order, development, educational problems, the ensuing Shri Amarnath Yatra, besides the political scenario which has emerged after the imposition of Governor’s Rule. He sought cooperation from all stake holders for the restoration of peace and tranquility in the State, to enable speeding up of developmental activities. Governor urged the leaders to join hands in bringing the State out of the present morass and motivating the youth to shun the path of violence and concentrating on their education and future careers.

The leaders put forth their view points for improving the law and order situation on the ground and suggested measures in this regard. They unanimously expressed their support to the Governor for restoring lasting peace in the State by taking into confidence all sections of the society. They emphasized the need for the Administration to work in a neutral, transparent and accountable manner, completion of important pending development projects in the different regions of the State; urgently addressing the long pending issues of SSA teachers; Anganwari workers; contractual Lecturers; strengthening of Public Delivery System and other pending issues to build confidence among the various sections of the society.

The National Conference and other parties including Panthers Party also favoured an immediate dissolution of the State assembly and to make atmosphere conducive for holding an early elections in the State, which has been placed under Governor’s rule earlier this week. 

Advisors to Governor, B.B. Vyas and K. Vijay Kumar, Chief Secretary, B.V.R Subrahmanyam, Principal Secretary to Governor, Umang Narula, Principal Secretary, Planning & Development, Rohit Kansal were also present in the meeting.

PDP Chief Holds Separate Meet With Vohra

Former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Friday called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan.

“Mufti referred to certain important issues, relating to the growth and development of the State, which could not be finalised during her tenure and urged Governor to consider the same for early decisions,” said a Raj Bhavan spokesman.

“Governor discussed with Mufti the need for all political parties and social organisations to join hands for regaining the trust of the youth and striving for the restoration of normalcy.”

Soon after the incident, the forces personnel comprising Jammu and Kashmir police, army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off the whole area to nab the attackers.
