No doubt, the sad, unfortunate and untimely demise of internationally reputed and renowned journalist Syed Sujaat Bukhari, which has left every Kashmiri heart with a void of grief, is a big loss to journalism in the region, and everyone is mourning the death of slain editor with tearful eyes. Though his death is a setback to journalism in Kashmir, but the impression and inspiration left behind by him on the young minds will never let them stop their mission.
It is appearant from the injured sentiments of the young journalists, that they are all set to take over the mission of their role model and will definitely go ahead to fulfill all those dreams which Shujaat Sahab would dreamt but his sudden demise has not allowed him to bring them to reality.
Journalism has waged a war again against injustice in real sense, it is the voice of voiceless , oppressed , sufferers, helpless, and the feared people. In other words you can say it is a helping hand to those whose hopes die when the toungs get swallowed after the people with upper hand suppress their voices.
It is the journalist who risks his life to raise the voice against corruption, discrimination, cruelty, injustice, and always tries his level best to bring out the people from miseries. No doubt the journalism is altogether a risky and the job of courageous people, but in Kashmir it is as if you are holding the life on you palm.
Although, the need of good journalists is every where in the world, but in Jammu and Kashmir it’s role is most important. As the violence is prevailing in the disputed region, accordingly the journalism is doing and has done a tremendous job to highlight the brutality and barbarian on the oppressed people nationally as well as internationally.
Crossing all the hurdles, reaching out to the people to cover the incidents, to read out the faces of people, to check the pulse of people and ultimately giving it all the shape of words for mass awareness nationally as well as internationally in order to bring them justice, is the job of journalists. Which is not as simple as you consider it, but a hard nut to crack.
During the decades long violence, several journalists and news reporters may have suffered injuries and some may have lost their lives to cover those dangerous intensive violence related incident sites or encounter sites where to enter is up to you but to leave has no garenty. But still the news reports have not lost their courage and are doing better by every passing day. The journalists never hesitate to propagate the trouth, while some times being looked up on by curved brows under the shadow of gun.
So, After the demise of Syed Shujaat Buthari, his counterparts have been encouraged more and will not let down themselves and eachother anyhow to carry on the mission of journalism in the region.
