SRINAGAR National Conference is not supporting anyone and there is no option but to impose governor rule in Jammu and Kashmir, its vice president and former chief minister Omar Abdullah said on Tuesday.
I have just met the governor and informed him that we are no approaching anyone, Omar told reporters here. The governor has no option but to impose the governors rule but I have told him that we should not have governors rule for long.
He said while decision of BJP was not surprising, timing surprised me and I was not expecting the coalition to break so soon.
He said that the National Conference offer of support to PDP soon after the election results were announced in 2014 was one time offer and it has expired.
He also claimed that national conference was not celebrating the breaking down of the PDP-BJP government but we mourn the demise of the democracy in the state.
He said the party was not happy about the ensuing situation and the recent collapse of the State Government as Governors rule was not ideally the most desirable arrangement in a democratic setup.
He said that being a former chief minister, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti should have left gracefully rather than with disgrace.
Omar said the current situation in the State was a collective failure of the government of India and the State Government and that restoration of peace and stability in the State was the foremost concern of the National Conference.
Omar said the party hoped that peace could be restored in the State and that a congenial and conducive atmosphere created at the earliest to enable the people to choose their Government as per their aspirations.
Prior to the presser, Omar met Governor of the State, N. N. Vohra at Raj Bhawan and assured him of the party’s cooperation in restoring peace in the State.
National Conference General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar, Senior Leader Abdul Rahim Rather, Chief Spokesperson Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, party legislators and leaders were also present in the Press Conference.
