SRINAGAR After a month long ceasefire, government forces launched Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) at several places in South Kashmir on Monday.
Official sources said that armys 3 Rashtirya Rifles of Indian army and SOG of Jammu Kashmir Police, acting on inputs about the presence of militants, launched CASO in Wagham village of Bijbehara town.
No contact with militants was established after which cordon was lifted, report said. Local sources said that village was brought under siege to remove militant banners, posters and clear pro-freedom graffities.
Government forces also launched CASO in Samboora village in southern Pulwama district.
An official said that a joint team of army’s 50 RR and SOG cordoned off Samboora following inputs about the presence of some militants there.
Soon after forces laid the cordon, a large number of youth took to streets and pelted stones. The police and paramilitary CRPF used tear smoke shells to disperse them.
In the meantime, locals circulated a video wherein the forces are seen to have kept some youth from the area in front of vehicle as “human shields”.
A joint team of army’s 42 RR, CRPF and SOG also launched a search operation at Bus Stand Tral.
Union Home Ministry had asked the forces to resume operations against militants after the end of holy month of Ramazan.
In series of tweets, the home minister Rajnath Singh announced that the ceasefire wont be extended. It asked the forces to resume their operations against the militants
