Anganwadi Workers Protest To Demand Honorarium Hike

SRINAGAR— Anganwadi workers Monday staged a protest here in Srinagar, saying that the administration has failed to address their demands of hike in honorarium.

The workers assembled here in Pratap Park under the banner of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association J&K and threatened to intensify their protests if the government did not meet their demands. “We have decided to go for a hunger strike from Monday if our demands are not met,” the workers said, adding that they were paid salaries for only two months, that too after months of protest, against their pending salaries of nine months.

“We were recently called by the Div Com for meeting and he assured us there that our issues will be addressed in three days but we are yet to hear from him,” they said. “We have been repeatedly saying that our counterparts from other states are getting 10 to 14 thousand as salary while we in Kashmir get only 600 rupees from the state share of our pay.”
