Share

Srinagar—The talented duo of Qamraan Iqbal and Mujtaba Yousuf has been picked for North Zone team that will take part in the BCCI’s U-19 Zonal Tourney.

The duo had been making mark in various age-group tournaments and the latest selection comes after impressing selectors in the recently concluded camp held at Gurgaon Delhi. Five Jammu and Kashmir players were part of the camp, out of which Qamraan and Mujtaba got nod of the selectors to represent North Zone in the upcoming inter-zone U-19 tournament.

Both the players have been on the selectors’ radar after impressing one and all in last couple of seasons.

Qamraan-a Srinagar based right handed batsman- had a fruitful season with the bat last season for J&K U-19 team. He also captained the side.

A lanky left arm pacer, Mujtaba has been making name for himself with his pace and movement since his U-16 days that saw him attend India U-16 camp last year.

The Inter-Zone tournament will be held at Uni Himachal Pradesh.

Unsurprisingly the duo sounded chuffed over the selection and termed it an important phase of their cricketing career.

“I am extremely happy to be part of the squad. Both me and Mujtaba worked hard in the camp. Thankfully selectors found us good enough to be picked for the squad. It will definitely be a learning experience for both of us. We will make sure we don’t disappoint selectors,” Qamraan told Kashmir Observer.

Mujtaba is keen to make his mark in the upcoming tournament.

“Some of the best young talent in India will be on display in the tournament. It gives us opportunity to make our mark and perform to our best of abilities to get noticed. I am sure we will learn lot during the course of the tournament,” said the left arm pacer.

J&K’s star cricketer Parvez Rasool congratulated the duo for their selection.

“I would like to congratulate both of them. They are talented players and reaching there is a big achievement.” Parvez Rasool told Kahsmir Observer

“It’s a huge platform for them and they should try to make most of it. I would suggest them to work hard and play well,” the J&K star cricketer said.

Parvez said that their inclusion will be a booster for other budding cricketers,

“Their entry into the Under 19 zonal team is an example of how skillful cricketers we have here. They will inspire more youngsters,” he added.

Besides the Kashmir duo, the fourteen-member squad includes Mayank Rawat, Ashoak Sandhu, Priyansh Arya, Anshul Kamboj, Nihal Wadheera,Sanat Sangwan, Ayush Badoni, Harsh Tyagi,Prabha Simran, Anuj Rawat, Anirudh Choudhary and Depon Chitkara.
