New DelhiAmidst speculation about talks with Hurriyat leaders, the chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Muham mad Yaseen Malik was released today along with four other activists while the spokesman of the alliance said its executive council would soon meet in Srinagar to discuss the whole situation.
The 33-year-old Malik, other leaders released are Abdul Majid Dethu, Abdul Ahad Waza, Ghulam Mohammed Sankar and Mohammed Ashraf Sehrai, official sources said here. .
The leaders were released i from high-security Tihar jail at I 1700 hours after detention of more than six months under Public Safety Act (PSA) raising the total number of Hurriyat leaders released since past month to 11.
Expressing satisfaction over the release, chief spokesman of the amalgam Abdul Gani Bhat said a meeting of Hurriyat’s executive council would be soon held in Srinagar.
“We will meet and discuss the whole scenario with reference to present happenings…..| Bhat, spokesman of the alliance, told reporters here.
However, he stressed that another senior leader and member of executive council Sheikh Abdul Aziz, presently languishing in a Jammu jail, should also be released.
The release of Malik and four other leaders of the Hurriyat have further fuelled speculation that talks might be held between the centre and the conference.
Bhat said Hurriyat was ready to give a serious thought to holding talks with the centre after it received a formal invitation from the government.
The Home Ministry officials are tight-lipped over the development, but hopeful that the release would strengthen the process for restoration of peace in the state.
The centre has indicated its move to hold talks with the Hurriyat leaders but the conference is insisting of a formal offer for the talks.
The five leaders were brought here to Tihar jail from Jodhpur jail in Rajasthan after more than six months of detention under PSA
Later, Malik was shifted to a private hospital when he complained of chest pain. He was discharged after medical tests.
Three senior Hurriyat leaders, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Abdul Gani Bhat and Maulana Abbas Ansari, were released earlier this month after over six months of detention under the act.
Besides, several second rung leaders including Ghulam Muhammad Hubbi, Ghulam Nabi Sumji and Shakeel Bhakshi have been released last month.
