Defending champion Danish pockets title again

Srinagar—Danish Ahmed of B. Sc 5th Semester defended his title successfully winning the Islamia College Annual Cycle Race on Saturday. This was Danish’s second title in as many years after winning the event in the year 2017 as well.

According to  a statement from the organisers, the 14.7 kilometre race was flagged off  by Prof. Muzafar Ahmed Khan, the principal of the college. The race  saw a good participation of 67 student cyclists of the college .

Danish covered the total distance in 21:31:340 minutes  followed by Muzamil Hussain, who had won the college road race two days ago, in 21:32:397 minutes closely chased by Suhail Nisar in 21:32:470 for the 3rd position . The 4th and 5th positions went to  Samiullah Dar and Abid Bashir by clocking the timings of 23:44:856 and 28:17:171 minutes respectively.

Muzaffar Khan  gave away trophies to the five  position holders and impressed upon them to inculcate a habit to participate in the games of their interest in and outside the college alongside their studies in order to be embodiments of sound mind in sound bodies. Prof. Shamim Ah Shamim  convenor college sports committee,  Dr. Nasreen Qureshi , Prof.M D Gogloo and Prof. Abid Hussain and Prof. Nofiya  besides members of college non teaching staff were also present on the occasion.

Prof. Nasreen Qureshi  presented the vote of thanks to participating  students and the staff members for making the hassle free race a grand success, besides thanking media persons present on the occasion.

The event was organised by the department of Physical Education of the college under the overall supervision of Dr. Altaf Ur Rehman.
