SrinagarThe 72-hours-long strike of National Health Mission (NHM) employees entered into the second day on Thursday with association protesting against the government demanding regularization of their duties.
The employees started their protest on Dec 20 to protest against the government for failing to regularize them from past several years.
Notably, the protest of NHM employees took place following the government announcement regarding the regularization of 61000 casual labours and daily wagers in the state.
The NHM employees decided to protest for their demands for 72-hours, saying that the protest is aimed to press the government for their demands of regularization.
The protesters especially the women participants held a sit-in at Pratap Park and chanted slogans in favour of their demands.
According to the KNS correspondent, the protesters welcomed the Facebook post of the Health Minister, Bali Baghat wherein he referred to the demands of NHM employees. We will not stop our protest until the government takes any serious step for securing our career, they said.
They said that they will extend their strike in case the government fails to fulfill the demands of NHM employees. We are working on meagre amount and the government is not paying any heed towards our sufferings. The government must come up with a proper road map and should secure the future of thousands of NHM employees, they demanded.
Earlier, in March this year, the NHM employees staged protest in favour of their demands and after protesting for consecutive eight days, the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan along with Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Lone met protesting employees and assured them that their demands will be convened to CM.
Reports quoted asking the protesting employees to resume their duties and make memorandum of demands. The absence of employees from the hospitals has caused immense hardships to the patients, he had said
Meanwhile, the patient care in Sub District Hospitals/CHCs and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the state was hit on Thursday due to strike.
As routine the patients visiting hospitals were compelled to return home without consultation and treatment as out-patient departments remained vacant for doctors, many travelled to far off places.
