Forces cordon Off Bandipore, Shopian Villages

Srinagar—Acting on a tip-off about the presence of militants, government forces on Thursday evening cordoned off Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district and Kashew village of Chitragam tehsil in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Many contingents of army’s 13 RR and Special Operation Group (SOG) of police have cordoned off Banger Mohalla and Wahab-Parray Mohalla of Hajin village. Similarly, personnel from Army’s 3 RR, 14th BN CRPF and SOG Zainapora cordoned off the village on Thursday evening.

A police official while confirming the cordon-and-search operation in the area told GNS that two to three suspected LeT militants are believed to be hiding in Hajin area.

The area continues to be under forces’ siege and there was no exchange of gunfire when this report was being filed.

Sources said that large numbers of forces have been deployed in the Zainapora area and door to door searches were going on when reports last came in
