Srinagar—Police have arrested a youth from South Kashmir’s Pulwama district who had uploaded a photograph of a student on social media labelling him as a recently recruited militant.

The accused has been identified as Shadir Gull Wagay of Rajmohalla Bundzoo Pulwama.

A police official said that recently a photograph of a boy Shahnawaz Rashid Wani of Check Wanihama Beerwa having joined militant ranks of HM militant outfit was in circulation on social media in Kashmir Valley.

During the course of investigation conducted by Police Station Beerwah it surfaced that the boy, a Class 9th student from Government High School Chewdara had nothing to do with militancy and was busy in his studies.

“The accused used to work in the orchards of the victim where he clicked his photograph and later on uploaded it on social media,” said a police official.

A case vide FIR number: 178 under Information Technology Act has been registered against the accused after the complaint filed by Shah Nawaz Rashid, the father of the victim.

“The accused has been arrested. A cell phone and a fake identity card was recovered from his possession,” the police official said.— CNS.
