Shabir Shah facing threat to life in Tihar jail: DFP

Srinagar—The chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah has said there is a threat to his life in Tihar jail, Delhi. He has sought a direction to the Tihar Jail authorities to shift him to the high-risk ward in an application before a Delhi court.

In this regard, Shah, through advocate M S Khan, has moved the application before Additional Sessions Judge Sidharth Sharma where he also alleged that the jail authorities were not providing him proper medicines.

The court sought a response from the jail authorities on the application by October 13.

The application said, “There is serious threat to his (Shah) life and few incidents have happened with him in jail as well as in the judicial lock-up”.

“Direct the jail authorities to shift him (Shah) to high risk ward in order to ensure his safety and security,” the application said.

The court had earlier denied bail to Shabir Ahmad Shah and issued orders to keep him in judicial custody.

The party said Shah is suffering from various ailments and being a diabetic patient he is not even provided the basic diet not to speak of the diabetic diet. It said the condition of Shah continues to be severe despite the court order (to provide Shah the basic facilities).

“Shah Sahib’s health has been severely deteriorated and authorities are deliberately playing with his life. In this vulnerable atmosphere, there is a serious threat to his life,” the party said.

The DFP reiterated appeal to world human rights bodies to take serious cognizance of the political vengeance Shabir Ahmad Shah is being subjected to and use their good offices in securing his release.
