SrinagarAfter having a tough day with the ball on the Day one, Jammu and Kashmir staged resurgence both with bat and ball on the day two of their Ranji Trophy 2017-18 fixture against Rajasthan played at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on Saturday.
Going into their seasons first game with so many controversies to deal with, J&K had to encounter a solid batting display from Rajasthan on the day one, but the visitors showed great character to finish the day sitting pretty at 150 for 1 after bowling out the hosts for 330.
Starting the day at 249 for 4 with centurion Robin Bist at the crease, Rajasthan would have been hoping for a massive first innings score but it wasnt to be thanks to seamer Mohammad Mudhasir. Being pick of the bowlers on the first day, Mudhasir bowled his heart out to bag a fifer with seasoned campaigner Samiullah Beigh and skipper Parvez Rasool also chipping in with wickets to derail Rajasthan. Mudhasir had excellent figures of 5 for 81 and Parvez Rasool had to contend with the returns of 3 for 50. Beigh had a brace of wickets as well. For hosts, Bist made 113 while Ashok Menaria contributed 69.
The young opening pair of Ahmad Banday and Shubham Khajuria got J&K off to solid start putting 109 for the first wicket. Both openers showed great application and skill level to thwart Rajasthans bowlers and help J&K make a strong comeback in the match. Khajuria didnt last long after scoring his fifty but Ahmad Banday continued to dig in to remain undefeated on 72 with J&K going into stumps at 150 for 1. Pranav Gupta was giving Banday a company not out on 17.
J&K will hope for Banday to go big and middle order to strengthen the strong base laid by openers.
Brief scores: Rajasthan 330 (Robin Bist 113, Ashok Menaria 69; Mohammed Mudhasir 5-81, Parvez Rasool 3-50) lead Jammu & Kashmir 150/1 (Ahmed Bandy 72*, Shubham Khajuria 53; Tanveer-Ul-Haq 1-18) by 180 runs.
