Ganderbal—In a surprising move, authorities at Municipal Committee Ganderbal in Central Kashmir have reinstated a tainted official after his release from prison.
Reports said that the tainted official has been reinstated as Senior Assistant though departmental inquiry initiated against him has yet to clear his name.
The said tainted official in connivance with a toll post contractor allegedly staged a drama in 2015 when he informed the Municipal Committee Ganderbal that the file containing the toll posts record of the said contractor has been stolen from his office chambers. The file contained the transactional record up to the tune of Rs 53 lakh.
As the news about the stealing of the file spread in the Committee, the said contractor refused to pay the due amount (Rs 53 lakh). Instead, according to reliable sources the Contractor greased the palm of the said tainted Senior Assistant. The file according to sources had not been stolen but was intentionally hidden and later on destroyed.
The act of the tainted official drained the financial resources of the Municipal Committee Ganderbal.
During the investigation it came to fore that tainted official Nazir Ahmed Sheikh was hand in glove with the toll posts contractor and both destroyed the records under a well thought plan. Accordingly Police Station Ganderbal registered an FIR vide number 16/2015 against the tainted official and made his arrest.
The court rejected his bail plea and he was shifted to Central Jail Srinagar. Even though the then Executive Officer Municipal Committee Ganderbal Anees Ahmed issued suspension order for him, but using his political influence the official not only got his suspension order revoked but also forced authorities to reinstate him.
Ironically, the departmental probe report has not absolved him.
Nazir Ahmed Sheikh, the official in question said that he was reinstated by the Director Local Bodies after a report of his innocence was presented before him. CNS
