Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir State Information Commission, Chief Information Commissioner, Mr. Khurshid A Ganai today delivered a special lecture on Scenario Planning: The art of the long view, to the students of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) at Nowgam-I academic block here.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Meraj ud Din Mir, Head of the Department, Management Studies, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Dean, Department of Students Welfare, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka, Deans, Heads and Coordinators of other departments and other faculty members were also present during the lecture organised by the Department of Management Studies.
While delivering the lecture, Mr. Khurshid A Ganai said the scenario planning has become a strategic management tool for the modern managers and therefore important to be studied in the universities and colleges as part of the MBA and other management courses.
Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Meraj ud Din Mir asked the students to make Mr. Khurshid Ganai as their role model and prepare thoroughly for the competitive examinations. He said that Mr. Ganai played a major role in making the policy decision in the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Prof. Mir said that there is a huge vacuum as far as our peoples presence in the civil services is concerned. He exhorted upon the students to prepare hard for the civil service examinations and prove their mettle in the administration.
Earlier, welcoming the guest, Head Department of Management Studies, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Shah, gave a brief introduction about Mr. Khurshid A Ganai. He said that Mr. Khurshid A Ganai has served at various top positions in the State administration and has a rich and diverse experience in the public administration.
About the theme, Dr. Farooq said, The scenario planning is different from the traditional conventional planning because in tradition plan, the forecast is based on longitudinal straight line, extrapolation of figures and facts and data. He added that the scenario planning is an integrated approach in which the participants and experts try to visualize a different set of scenarios about the features, which are going to unfold in future.
The lecture was followed by interactive session of Mr. Khurshid Ganai with the students.
DSW holds test for shortlisting of candidates
Department of Students Welfare (DSW), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) today conducted an examination to shortlist the aspirants for scholarship based coaching for preparing for the civil services examination.
Eight six students from different departments of the university appeared in the examination, through Ignited Minds, a training institute for civil services training.
The three toppers will be provided free coaching and the next ten would be provided 50 per cent scholarship in the tuition fee by the coaching academy, Ignited Minds. Others who qualify would be provided 30 per cent scholarship in tuition fee by the aforementioned academy.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, paid a visit to the examination centre and appreciated the DSW for conducting the examination and facilitating the students for preparing for the civil services test.
2-day workshop on Journalism and Peacebuilding ends
The two-day capacity-building workshop on Journalism and Peacebuilding concluded at Central University of Kashmir (CUK) on Saturday.
The workshop was organised by Department of Convergent Journalism of the university in collaboration with Centre for Law & Development (CLD) and Kargil Development Project.
Speaking at the valedictory function, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir called on the students to capitalize on the opportunities offered by such workshops. Even if there is a goldmine, if you are not able to tap it, it is of no use, Prof Mehraj said.
He thanked the organizers of the workshop, adding that the university always appreciates new ideas and suggestions coming from organizations like CLD.
He appreciated the efforts of Convergent Journalism department for imparting practical training to students.
The participants were given certificates on the occasion. The resource persons of the workshop were also felicitated by the Vice-Chancellor.
