Ladakh Highway Reopens After 4 Months

Share

Ganderbal: After remaining closed for more than four months, the 434-KM Srinagar-Leh highway was thrown open for vehicular traffic on Friday.

Officials said that only light-motor vehicles were allowed to move on the highway ahead of Sonamarg on Friday.

“Authorities will decide about movement of the heavy vehicles on the highway later,” they said.

Colonel Amit Chandan of 32 BRTF told CNS that road was thrown open after continuous efforts put by his team. “This year there was massive snow accumulation. Our work forces worked day in and day out to restore the connective between two regions,” he said.

The highway was closed for vehicular traffic in mid of January this year after the high altitude areas of Kashmir, including Sonamarg and Zojila, received heavy snowfall.

The 10-KM Gagangeer-Sonamarg road stretch of the highway was thrown on March 2nd this year.
