Srinagar: Residents of Qambar Lane, Baghwanpora , Lal Bazar Tuesday staged a protest against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Water Works Division as the whole area suffers from acute shortage of drinking water and many homes are even suffering from water connectivity due to unavailability of public water pipes for their hiomes.
Demanding urgent intervention of the higher authorities, residents alleged that the concerned department has failed to provide essential service in the area despite repeated reminders.
“We have been living here for last five years and since then despite our repeated pleas of making drinking water available to the PHE Department our grievance was not addressed,” said Masood Ahmad, a resident of Qambar lane.
Kausar Hussain another resident said, “From three and half years I have been visiting the PHE Office requesting to the concerned officials to provide a drinking water connection to our home but they always bring lame excuses of unavailability of budget or shortage of pipes.
When KO brought the residents concern in the notice of Aijaz Ahmad Qureshi, Executive Engineer Water Works Division, Srinagar , he said: The pipes have been allotted for the purpose and as soon as possible we shall provide drinking water facility to the residents of said lane”.
