SRINAGAR: State Cricket Academy- Jammu and Kashmirs maiden cricket academy- began its proceedings formally with Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council secretary Waheed ur Rehman Parra inaugurating it on Tuesday. The much wanted academy-housed in Bakshi Stadium Srinagar-started its maiden innings with a coaching camp for the U-16 age-group that has been a massive hit among the budding cricketers.
Still in infancy, the academy, Parra said, will be a great setting for the aspiring cricketers in years to come. The construction work, as per the statement from the Sports Council, is going at a rapid pace and the coaching camp for the U-16 cricketers is being held at a makeshift arrangement which will soon see a full-fledged powered with modern facilities, turf and cements besides other basic requirements.

Parra reiterated that coming up with a cricket academy in the state was long overdue with cricketer enthusiasts vying for it big time.
After receiving nod from Honble Chief minister, the President of the Sports Council and Honble Minister for Youth Service and Sports, Molvi Imran Reza Ansari, it (academy) has finally taken off, Parra said.
Secretary also added that academy has a long way to go and will help in grooming the young cricketers of the state.
The academy will be a breeding ground for future stars, he said.

Mubashir Hassan, Director and head coach, SCA said that his team will focus on overall development of players.
The main purpose of the academy is to nurture cricketers at the grass root level and intends to be nursery for producing cricketers for bigger stage. We will make sure there is overall development of cricketers. We dont want them to one trick pony. said Hassan, a BCCI licensed coach and former J&K first class cricketer.
