Adopt a political approach to Kashmir

Since India and Pakistan gained freedom in 1947, both the nations claim Kashmir to be their integral part. Both the nuclear nations have fought three full scale wars on Kashmir.  India claims Kashmir to be its integral part, whereas Pakistan considers it an unfinished agenda of partition. The cold war is going on between these two South Asian giants. What an irony, the people of Kashmir are unheard by them. The most unfortunate situation has arisen, as a result. Since the day the people of the subcontinent were divided, there has been enmity and a war of words and both the nations have blamed each other and ignored the core issue of Kashmir. The Kashmir issue has now moved beyond the control of mainstream politicians and pro-freedom leaders. The leadership has become irrelevant.

Any conflict diagnosis would have a manifested victimhood most vivid in its youth and given a grim prognosis of Kashmir imbroglio. The youth of Kashmir continue to find themselves enmeshed and entrenched in an uncertain scenario, where their past seems to be their looming on their future as well. The conflict is as live today as it was during the armed insurgency, triggered by a rigged election which the youth saw as the last nail in the coffin of trust between New Delhi and Kashmir.

For all those who say Kashmir problem is related to bread and butter should also understand that the Indian financial injections are achieving little in absence of any concrete political long term solutions and are proving to be daily first aid dressings to a much more serious and malignant wound. Youth continue to harbor deep frustration and resentment. The majority of the valley’s young generation feels let down even with the economic incentives that government of India is offering. believing that they are mere eyewash.

It is the high time for the New Delhi to address the Kashmir issue. The people of Kashmir aspire for a permanent solution for the long pending political dispute. India has not sincerely cleared its stand. They have done everything but not made an attempt at a sincere dialogue. The war between the two countries in the past has yielded no result. Therefore the only option for both the countries is to ascertain the will of the people through a plebiscite under the supervision of United Nations. Both the countries are signatories to the UN resolution recommending the Righ to Self-Determination to the people of the state. Though India has been denying this right to the people on one pretext or the other and the consequences are apparent. The people of the state in no case are prepared to accept the Indian claim. They are offering all types of sacrifices to achieve independence. Young and old have sacrificed their lives for this cause. The government of India knows everything but is trying to hide facts and buy time to label facts as unrealistic. Kashmir problem if solved would usher in an era of peace and prosperity for the people of sub-continent.

Killings will aggravate the problem. Pumping more and more forces with sophisticated weapons to deal with the people of the state demanding freedom will encourage and strengthen the freedom moment in Kashmir.
