Kashmiri Students Threatened, Abused In Haryana, Rajasthan Colleges

SRINAGAR:- Kashmiri students at the Rawal Institute of Technology in Faridabad, Haryana have alleged that some of female student were harassed, abused and are receiving threats by some students in the varsity.

There are more than 300 Kashmiri students enrolled in the Institute in different courses.

The students said, they are being harassed by students associated with right wing parties since last two days.

“The boys used abusive language today and followed Kashmiri girls which led to clashes between Kashmir boys and offenders,” said a B.Tech student wishing anonymity.

The students said, they have submitted an application to the director of the institution with print-outs of the foul messages they have been receiving.

 “But now they are receiving threats too,” said another student of the institute.

“They abused our religion and were continuously trying to provoke us without any reason. When we complained to the hostel warden no action was taken,” said another student.  

“We are really scared right now. The girls of a particular bent of mind in the hostel are trying to instigate us. But we aren’t reacting. Some restrictions have been placed inside their hostel. So we don’t interact with them. But we are receiving threats over phones, whatsapp and texts messages” said another girl student.

When contact Chief Hostel Warden of College Dr. Hambir Sing said, “there were some issues between the students and we are trying to resolve it, Kashmiri students need not to worry, we will try our best to ensure their safety” .

Pertinently, some Kashmiri students who are studying at Mewar University Chittorgarh in Rajasthan were assaulted on Wednesday evening by a group of locals belonging to a particular community over heckling of CRPF men during recent parliamentarian elections in Budgam district.

Talking to Kashmir Observer, Minister of Education, Altaf Bukhari said, “to ensure safety of the students studying outside the valley, he will take up the matter with the police chiefs of all the states and concerned authorities”.

6 Kashmiri Students Beaten Up in Rajasthan 

Six Kashmiri students studying in Mewar University were injured when they were beaten up by some locals in Chittorgarh district, a Kashmiri student of the university said on Thursday.

“At least nine fellow students were beaten up with sticks and bats around 6 p.m. on Wednesday near Gangrar town after the locals got to know that they are from Kashmir. At least six of them were injured,”  IANS quoted him as asying.

However, university authorities said the students had entered into a scuffle with some locals while on way to a market near the university in Chittorgarh.

While the Kashmiri student said around 250 university students hailing from his state protested and some even skipped dinner in protest on Wednesday, the university denied it.

“These students had dinner and there was no protest. Classes are being held as usual,” a Mewar University official said.

Police have registered a case against unidentified persons.
