Share

Srinagar: Clashes erupted at various places in north and central Kashmir between government forces and students, who were demonstrating against use of disproportionate force in different degree colleges across the valley on Monday and last week.

The protests by students against use of force by government forces in Degree College Pulwama on April 15 (Saturday), followed by use of alleged disproportionate force on students on Monday in various educational institutes across the valley, erupted despite authorities closing universities, colleges and higher secondary schools from last two days.

Scores of students took to the streets at Palhallan Pattan on Srinagar-Baramulla road to protest against alleged thrashing of students by security force on April 16 in Degree College Pulwama and various colleges and higher secondary schools in the valley on Monday. The slogan shouting students, demanding action against the accused security force personnel, tried to take out a protest march.

However, when the students were trying to block Srinagar-Baramulla highway, security forces burst teargas shells to disperse the demonstrators, who resorted to pelting stones. Students of Delina Higher Secondary School also took out a protest march against the use of force against students. However, security forces deployed in the area resorted to lathicharge to disperse the demonstrators.

Security forces fired teargas shells to disperse students, who were protesting against  forces action in various educational institutes at Bomai in Sopore in Baramulla. Students of Higher Secondary school and several middle schools in Ajas and Nadihal in Bandipora hit the streets against security force action. Demanding action on the accused security force personnel, the protesting students blocked Srinagar-Bandipora road, affecting traffic movement.
