Rains Predicted From Thursday

Srinagar:  After witnessing several notches above normal maximum and minimum temperatures from over a week, wet weather is predicted from this evening in Kashmir valley, which could bring some respite from warm conditions.

A Met department spokesperson told UNI that light rain and thundershowers may occur during the next three days at isolated places in Kashmir valley under the influence of a fresh Western Disturbance (WD), which is active in the region.

The night temperature at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, surged and settled at 8 degree, which is 6 notches above normal, melting snow on the slopes and other higher peaks.

The summer capital, Srinagar was the hottest place in the region after night temperate surged 3 degree and settled at 13.5 degree, which is about 6 notches above normal. Yesterday, the day temperature recorded in the summer capital, was 8 degree above normal.

Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kokernag also witnessed increase in the night temperature as the mercury settles at 9.8 degree, 10.1 degree and 12 degree respectively.

The mercury at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, surged by 3 degree from yesterday and settled at 8.2 degree, which is 5 degree above normal. The water level in river Lidder, passing through the health resort, also recorded increase due to melting of snow in higher reaches.
