Over 3.87 lakh cubic meters of slit dredged from Jhelum in Kashmir

Srinagar:  Over 3.87 lakh cubic meters of slit has been dredged from river Jhelum at various places in Kashmir valley.

Official said that the contract of Jhelum dredging has been awarded to Reach Dredging Limited Company.

They said till date around 67000 cubic meters silt has been dredged out from the Jhelum at Panzinara and Kreshbal, 65000 cubic meters at Shivpora and Zero Bridge. Meanwhile, 2.55 lakh cubic meters of slit has been dredged out from the river Jhelum in north Kashmir district of Baramulla.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan directed the executing agency to install extra machines for dredging so that the targets are achieved in stipulated time and all the river embankments are cleared of sand & slit.              

Meanwhile, to supervise the dredging work and to resolve land acquisition issue for creating Dyke, the Divisional Commissioner deputed three retired Tehsildars to the Reach Dredging Limited for assistance.
