CUK to launch B. Tech in Computer Science from this year

Srinagar: The 18th meeting of the Executive Council (EC) of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) was held at Nowgam-II academic cum administrative block here with Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir in chair.
 

The meeting was also attended by Commissioner/Secretary to Government, Department of Higher Education, Dr. Asgar Samoon, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, Prof. Ashok Aima, Dean School of Education, Prof. N A Nadeem, Dean School of Legal Studies, Dr. Sheikh Showkat Hussain, Head Department of Management Studies, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Senior Deputy Director, National Institute of Pathology, Safdarjung Hospital Campus, Dr. Nasreen Z Ehtesham, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar and Finance Officer, Mr. Bashir Ahmad Haji.
 

The meeting endorsed the launching of B. Tech programmes in various streams of Engineering and decided to start the B. Tech programme in Computer Sciences from this year. The meeting also approved appointments made by different selection committees in various teaching departments and the budget for financial year 2016-17.
 

Addressing the members, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said the university was moving ahead on the academic front and all the departments have conducted their Board of Studies and School Boards. He said that the university is constantly upgrading its curriculum in order to provide quality education to the children. Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir informed the EC members that despite the last year’s unrest, the university was able to finish the syllabi and conduct the examination of students, for which the winter vacations of the faculty members’ was curtailed. CUK VC further said that the university conducted the CUKAT-17 for admission to the integrated Science programmes B.Sc-M.Sc in Physics, Zoology, Biotechnology, Mathematics and B.A L.L.B on 19th of March, 2017 and also held its 7th Academic Council on 20th of March, 2017. He said that the members in the Academic Council proposed launching of Engineering programmes and other skill based courses.

 
Prof. Mir said that the university was facing several impediments during the construction of campus at Ganderbal and apprised the members about the measures taken by the varsity for starting the construction on permanent structures at the designated campus.
 

Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar while welcoming the members, gave details about the academics and other related activities conducted by the university from time to time. He said that the university is marching ahead on all fronts and the activities has increased manifold. The intake of students, number of programmes and innovative courses has also increased, he added. H said that vocational programmes have also been introduced and many capacity building programmes have also been held in the university.
