Srinagar: A National Sample Survey (NSS) will be conducted from January on Service Sector enterprises in Kashmir to estimate the value added by them and to help decision-making, planning and policy formulation for this sector by the government.
An official spokesperson here today said that the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) regional office Srinagar and the Directorates of Economics and Statistics, Jammu and Kashmir government are conducting 74th Round of survey from January, 2017, which covers Services Sector enterprises.
He said the main objective of the 74th Round of NSS is to estimate the value added by the enterprises involved in services sector.
The information will be useful for decision-making, planning and policy formulation for this sector by the Government, he said, adding important economic indicators like fixed assets, expenses, receipts, gross value added (GVA), etc of the services sector will be estimated from this survey.
The data collected in this Round will be useful in meeting the requirements of different Ministries, Organizations and researchers, he said.
Meanwhile, the Director, NSSO Srinagar Altaf Hussain Haji (ISS), who is Statistics officer of NSSO Jammu and Kashmir, said that well-qualified and trained officers of NSSO collect information using a schedule that is especially designed for the survey.
For the first time in NSS surveys, a Statutory Notice under the Jammu and Kashmir Collection of Statistics Act, 2012 will be issued to the statistically selected sample of enterprises, with a request to provide information, as contained in schedule of enquiry, to the officers of NSSO visiting for data collection, he said.
He said the enterprise owners/operators are liable to provide necessary information sought for canvassing Schedule. They shall also be liable to provide the annual accounts (Balance Sheet and P/L Accounts for the Financial Year 2015-16) along with other information necessary for completing of Schedule, he said.
He said State Governments also collect information from the sample enterprises assigned to them using the same methodology and schedules.
Hs said that various agencies in India and abroad are utilizing the NSS data for estimation of poverty, construction of price indices and assessing impact of various programmes on pattern and level of household consumption expenditure, employment-unemployment situation, condition of farmers, migration, utilization of health and education services, etc.
Enterprise survey conducted by the NSSO provide database of non-agricultural enterprises, which is used for estimation of National Income at both National and State level, besides providing information on the economic conditions of entrepreneurs working in manufacturing, trade and services in unincorporated sector, he added.
Mr Haji further said that the success of these surveys, thus, critically depends on the quality of the response from public.
The officers of NSSO may be approaching concerned unit for collection of necessary data. Without their co-operation and necessary support, it will not be possible to get required data. NSSO, therefore, appeals to all concerned to extend your co-operation to its officers and spare your valuable time to provide them correct and complete information, he added.
