Hope Masrat Alam will be released now: Geelani

Srinagar: Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani Wednesday while welcoming the court verdict to quash the PSA of Hurriyat leader and Muslim League chairman, Masarat Alam Bhat expressed his apprehension that fate of this revocation may not be different from similar orders given in the past, as the authorities must have prepared another dossier to clip the wings before he even tries to fly off.

The Hurriyat (G) chairman said that in case anybody defies the court order, he is liable to face the contempt proceedings, but government very brazenly and shamelessly refute and rebuke their own court decisions repeatedly and so-called powerful and authoritative judiciary seems to be more than helpless to yield to the pressure of the government.

In a statement issued to KNS, Geelani said that such state victimization through judicial apathy puts a big question mark on the independence and impartiality of the whole judicial system, particularly in the oppressed land of Jammu & Kashmir.

He said that government seems to be at will to prolong any body’s jail term through their sold out mindset augmented by the lazy and non implementation of legal verdicts and despite the rules existing in files and offices, government institutions get a free hand to manipulate them to get their desired outcome.

Hailing the resolve, determination and resilience of the person, who’s more than 17 years’ incarceration has failed to dent him, Hurriyat chairman said that the nation which harbors brave hearts like him, can never be defeated in their sacred mission.

He said that Masarat Alam continues to be in jail since 2010, although late Mufti Syed dared to release him as a ‘’good will gesture’’ of his new coalition government in March 2014, But this Indian by conviction, Mufti Sahib was labeled to be soft on pro-freedom sentiments.

“The jingoistic and hyper nationalist medias’ uproar took him to task and this so-called seasoned and bold politician of his caliber couldn’t sustain the media pressure and within the short period of a month, Masarat Alam was again put behind bars, thereby saving his coalition government and also satisfying the collective conscience of media houses,” Geelani added.

The senior pro-freedom leader said like Masarat Alam there are thousands of brave hearts who willfully and consciously spare their precious movements of their life for the betterment of the people and noble cause of their suppressed nation.

He said that unparallel sacrifices by these enthusiastic and dedicated souls, deserve their applause and recognition and can’t shoulder off their responsibility by mere press statements.

He said we as a nation should remember these live martyrs prioritize their needs and pledge to share their noble mission of our freedom, for which they are forcibly subjected to unlawful, undemocratic and unethical imprisonment. (KNS)
