New Delhi: Cold and foggy weather conditions continued in most parts of north India today with Leh in Jammu and Kashmir freezing at minus 12.9 degrees Celsius even as 52 trains were delayed due to poor visibility.
In the national capital, cold conditions prevailed even as a moderate fog cover enveloped most parts of the city in the morning hours, which delayed 52 trains.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 7.5 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature was 25.1 degrees Celsius.
According to a senior Railway official, 52 trains were running late by several hours and six trains were rescheduled.
Kashmir continued to experience sub-zero night temperature as the mercury remained below normal for this time of the season in view of the prevailing dry weather.
Srinagar recorded a low of minus 4.1 degrees Celsius, an official of the MeT Department said.
Leh, in Ladakh region, was the coldest recorded place in the Jammu and Kashmir as the night temperature there settled at a low of minus 12.9 degrees Celsius, he said.
In Punjab and Haryana, minimum temperatures hovered around normal levels in most parts of both the states.
Narnaul in Haryana was the coldest place in both the states, registering a minimum of 3.5 degrees Celsius, a MeT department official said today.
Union Territory Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded a minimum of 7.1 degrees Celsius.
Foggy weather at several places affected road, rail and air traffic because of poor visibility, officials said.
Moderate to dense fog occurred at most places over eastern Uttar Pradesh and parts of western UP even as the weather across the state remained dry.
Lucknow recorded the lowest temperature of 5.8 degrees Celsius in the state.
In Rajasthan, slight increase in the night temperature was registered with Sikar being recorded as the coldest place in the state at 6 degrees Celsius.
North Western railway has rescheduled Jodhpur-Varanasi Express while seven other trains including Allahabad-Jaipur, Howrah-Jodhpur are running late due to dense fog in the northern region, according to an NWR spokesperson.
In Himachal Pradesh, intense cold wave continued to sweep the hills and valleys.
Keylong in tribal Lahaul and Spiti recorded a low of minus 3.1 degrees Celsius.
In Bihar, Patna recorded minimum temperature of 11.5 degrees Celsius, state MeT office bulletin said.
Gaya was the coldest place in the state with a minimum temperature of 9.8 degrees Celsius.
Cold wave conditions persisted in several parts of Odisha despite marginal fall in temperature in some areas, while Phulbani in Kandhamal district remained the coldest place in the state with 5.4 degrees Celsius.
