Srinagar: Police on Friday detained scores of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) activists along with the party chief, Muhammad Yasin Malik after they tried to march towards commercial Hub Lal Chowk against the government decision of issuing domicile certificates to West Pakistan Refugees (WPR).
The protest call was given by the separatist leadership including Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, Hurriyat (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and JKLF chief, Muhammad Yasin Malik in their joint statement.
As soon as the Friday congregational prayers ended at Sarai Bala Masjid, Malik along with scores of his activists carried out a protest march during which anti-India and pro-freedom slogans were raised.
Malik said that they will oppose the government decision of issuing domicile certificates to WPRs tooth and nail. We wont allow the government to issue domicile certificates to WPRs. We will fight against the government over such moves and are ready to sacrifice our lives as well, he said.
Taking a dig at Education Minister and government spokesman, Naeem Akhtar, Malik said that the government has appointed Akhtar to teal lies. The government has said that they are issuing domicile certificates to WPRs and now Akhtar is claiming that they are issuing only identification certificates, which a blatant lie, he said.
He said that Akhtar should come forward and reveal that it was BJP who lied to people over the issue.
Malik said that since PDP-BJP assumed the charge in the state, the government has raised several issues so far to instigate the people of Kashmir. Several issues including Sainik Colonies, Pandit Colonies, State subject and other issues were raised during the tenure of the present regime through which they are trying to instigate the people of Kashmir, he said.
Meanwhile, as soon the JKLF chief along with scores of activists tried to march towards Lal Chowk, police swung into action and detained him along with his activists.
