‘CRPF men thrash young journalist near SMHS’

Srinagar: A young journalist Shafat Farooq was Thursday thrashed by CRPF men near SMHS. Farooq, who currently works Greater Kashmir TV, told KNS that at around 1:40 in the afternoon CRPF men pounced upon him near SMHS.

Farooq added, “Just few yards ahead of GMC gates, there was huge rush of vehicles that had led to a traffic jam. I made some quick moves on my bike taking sides from left and right only to find that two trucks belonging to the CRPF 23rd battalion were trying to enter their camp. I along with many other bikers were waiting behind the trucks,” he said.

He said after some ten minutes the CRPF men were neither letting them go nor were clearing the road.

“I was in a hurry as I had to cover a protest at Press Colony. I managed to find a small gap behind the truck and made my way considering that the wait seemed tiring and unnecessary. A CRPF man stopped the bike and without saying anything thrashed me along with my bike and started abusing. He was joined by his other colleagues posted outside the camp gates who started thrashing and abusing me, hurling choicest abuses at me,” Farooq alleged.

Later, according to Farooq, they (CRPF men) tried to drag him inside the camp, but he resisted and soon the onlookers intervened and seeing the crowd of people the CRPF men got unnerved and released him. (KNS)
