Srinagar:- Thousands of people came out of their houses in South Kashmir’s various towns as the news of the killing of Burhan Muzaffar Wani, spread like wildfire Friday evening.
People took to streets at Kokernag and other adjacent areas, including Anantnag and Achhbal and marched towards the encounter site, reports quoting eyewitnesses said describing the situation there as ‘highly volatile’.
According to reports people in trucks and tractors headed to Kokernag where the body of Burhan was lying in the local police station.
At Janglat Mandi in Anantnag at least two protesters were hit by teargas shells fired by police resulting in their injuries.
Reports of protests were received from Tral, the native place of Burhan Wani, Pulwama and Awantipora in South Kashmir Palhallan, Trehgam, Lalpora and Sopore in North Kashmir.
Mosques in various areas reverberated with slogans eulogising young militant commander.
At Nowhatta Chowk in Srinagar a large number of people offered funeral prayers in absentia for the slain militant commander in the night.
